Local Skiers Compete At U.S. Freestyle Mogul National Championships

SKIING NEWS

The 2024 US Freestyle Mogul National Championships were held March 22-24 at Waterville
Valley Resort in Waterville, NH. Waterville Valley is considered the Birthplace of Freestyle Skiing and hosted the event which is comprised of the top 64 Men and Women Mogul Skiers in the US. This year’s field was extremely strong with five US Ski Team Members on the Men’s side and six US Team Members on the Women’s, including Nick Page, the 5th ranked male in the world and Jalin Kauf, the 2nd ranked female in the world.

The event includes skiers from all over the United States, but only two from New Mexico, and they are both local athletes from Los Alamos. Munayo Ferreria, 17, and Stephen Boone, 19, both capped off successful seasons at this year’s National Championships. Stephen Boone finished10th in the Single Moguls and 4th in Dual Moguls. Stephen currently lives in Salt Lake City, UT and trains with the Wasatch Freestyle Team. In addition to this event, Stephen had a very solid season on the NorAm Tour, which includes the top skiers from the US and Canada, and skied very well at the Intermountain Divisional Championships with a 5th place in Single Moguls and 1st place in Duals.

Munayo, in his first US Nationals, finished 45th in Single Moguls and 41st in Duals. Munayo skied well this year in the Rocky Mountain Freestyle events and had an amazing 4th place finish at the US Junior Nationals in Park City, UT. Munayo is a Junior at Los Alamos High School and trains with the Winter Park Competition Center.

Both Stephen and Munayo grew up skiing at Pajarito Mountain and represent the Mountain, the Town and the State with Pride and Class. Both are also very thankful for all the overwhelming support from the schools and friends & family over the years!
