LAFD NEWS RELEASE

Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD) and the Los Alamos Elks Lodge invite the community to join the festivities at Ashley Pond Park (2200 Trinity Drive, Los Alamos) Saturday, Mar. 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for Wildfire Day 2024 and the Annual Elk’s Easter Egg Hunt.

This family-friendly, outreach event includes a close look at LAFD and Los Alamos Police Department specialty equipment, a bicycle safety helmet fitting and distribution, a Classic Air Medical Helicopter on display, time with our friends Smokey Bear and Sparky the Fire Dog, bounce houses, the much-anticipated annual egg hunt, plus much more!

Wildfire Day has grown to include numerous organizations as an opportunity for members of the community–young and old–to learn about public safety and mental health resources in Los
Alamos County. This year’s event will include the Los Alamos County Community Services Department, U.S. Forest Service and National Park Service, Los Alamos National Laboratory,
the Los Alamos Commerce and Development Corporation, Los Alamos County DWI Council,
Safer New Mexico-Car Seat Clinic, and the Brain Injury Advisory Council from the Governor’s
Commission on Disability has provided bicycle helmets for LAFD to fit and provide to kids in
attendance for Bicycle Safety.

For the safety of all in attendance, Central Avenue between Oppenheimer Drive and 15th Street will be closed for a few hours on Saturday, March 30, from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.
