County: Road Closure Scheduled To Start Monday For Rose Street

COUNTY NEWS RELEASE

Phase II of the Rose Street Reconstruction Project is scheduled to begin Monday, March 18, with the closure of Rose Street from Circle Drive to Spruce Street. This phase of the project involves underground utility work.

TLC Plumbing & Utility will be conducting the work under contract with Los Alamos County. Circle Drive residents may access their homes from the direction of Central Avenue. Access in and out of the Chapel Apartments will be limited to 22nd Street. Oppenheimer Condos may accessed via Peach Street. This phase of the project is expected to last at least a month.

TLC will be working on the road between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays. Work may occur on Fridays and weekends when necessary. The road will remain closed outside of TLC’s working hours. Drivers should follow detour signs to ensure ingress and egress to impacted properties.

The full Rose Street Reconstruction Project affects Rose Street and sections of Peach and Spruce streets. Under the project scope, existing asphalt will be replaced and the following new infrastructure will be replaced or installed: curb and gutter, drainage inlets, sidewalk, ADA ramps with detectable warning surfaces, drive pads, utilities valve adjustments, sewer manhole cover adjustments, and striping. This joint project between Los Alamos County Public Works and the Department of Public Utilities (DPU) also includes rehabilitation of aging gas lines, replacement of waterlines, and additional hydrants.

Services such as mail delivery, trash and recycling collection, school bus, transit, and emergency services will be maintained.  Residents can expect noise from large equipment and construction. Motorists and pedestrians are advised to use caution around construction activities and avoid entering the work zone.
