CO-OP MARKET NEWS RELEASE
As a Co-op, it’s easy to feel small in a world of corporate giants, but size doesn’t always
determine strength. At the Los Alamos Co-op Market – Los Alamos’ only local grocer – the
team has been taking on the Goliaths of the grocery industry since the store opened in 2011.
With a wide selection of local products, freshly made deli foods, and affordable pricing on
organic groceries, their staff continues to be a resource for excellent food that supports the
community.
With the changes in shopping habits of customers brought on by COVID and the opening of a
large, national competitor, the co-op’s sales started to decline in 2021.The Co-op has worked hard to recover, and sales and customer count have increased since Andre Chavez was hired as General Manager in October of 2022. Unfortunately, the store needs at least a 20% increase in sales over the next 6 months to operate profitably and continue to serve the community.
The Co+op is a full-service natural food grocer where you can find high quality, healthy food,
and the best produce selection in town. Co-op members and customers are finding value in
fresh, organic, and local products, as well as the products discounted in weekly Co+op deals
featuring top natural food brands and local fresh deals.
“We are working hard to earn our community’s patronage. Our weekly sales are growing, and
we are receiving a great deal of positive feedback. However, we need to generate more sales if
we are to remain open beyond 2024,” said General Manager Andre Chavez. “We would love to
get feedback from our community on how we can better serve their needs.”
