COUNTY NEWS RELEASE

To celebrate the launch of the second year of the Los Alamos Community Seed Library, the Los Alamos Public Library is hosting a Seed Library Birthday Celebration at both Mesa Public Library and White Rock Branch Library. Local gardening experts will be available to answer questions, and there will be cake, paper crafts and board games at both libraries from 1:00pm to 3:00pm on Saturday, March 2, 2024. All ages welcome.

Each library will host gardening experts with knowledge and expertise in gardening that is specific to each location. The volunteer experts at White Rock Branch Library will be able to share tips, ideas, and solutions to gardening in White Rock’s soils. The volunteer experts on hand at Mesa Public Library will share their own years (decades!) of experience growing on the mesas of Los Alamos. In each location, these seasoned experts can help choose the best seeds for your garden from the Seed Library.

It’s been a hugely successful first year with the Los Alamos Community Seed Library. Almost 1,500 packages of seeds were borrowed from the Seed Library by hundreds of members of the Los Alamos community. Many thousands more seeds were harvested and donated back to the Seed Library by local gardeners.
