Three girls from Girl Scout Troop 10074 were at the Roundhouse and then two other Los Alamos/White Rock Girl Scout troops also attended, 10762 and 10507. Two of our Senior Girl Scouts (9th graders) from 10074, Aislinn and Kenzie, planned and led an activity table for younger girls about the legislative branch of government and the process of voting, including a mock vote. They made progress on their Behind the Ballot badge by running the activity and helped the younger girls earn their Democracy badges.

Aislinn and Kenzie also asked a question of the legislators during the Girl-led Town Hall. They have been working with their troop on their Sow What? journey, which focuses on local foods and food issues; the troop is trying to solve some of the issues that have come up at the high school with the new school lunch program, so the troop as a whole formulated several questions for our state legislature for Aislinn and Kenzie to share at the Town Hall. Aislinn and Kenzie were allowed to share one of the questions, asking what the legislature was doing to address the problem of food shortages at the high school during lunch. The legislators all had very thoughtful answers and sought the girls out after the program to get contact information so they will be able to follow up.

The whole Girl Scout Day at the Roundhouse event was a great success! The Girl Scouts in attendance enjoyed themselves a lot, and the Town Hall questions were thoughtful and interesting. The Senator and two Representatives who attended were engaged and respectful of each girl asking a question, from the youngest 1st graders to the older high schoolers, and stayed after the program to meet many of the Girl Scouts and their families.
