Los Alamos High School Athletic Director Ann Stewart has announced her retirement at the end of the school year. She has served as the AD for 10 years. Ms. Stewart had been a teacher for more than 13 years and a coach for more than16 years prior to being named the Athletic Director. Before becoming an educator, she served as a police officer.
“Over the years I have enjoyed watching the successes of the kids,” she said. “I love watching their excitement when they do well. It’s exciting to watch them overcome obstacles and wo
hard and see the fruits of their labors.”
In addition to her duties as the LAHS Athletic Director, Ms. Stewart has served as a board member of the New Mexico Athletic Directors Association (NMADA) and on the board of directors for the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA), and was recognized by the NIAAA as a Certified Master Athletic Administrator.
During her tenure, she has been named the NMADA State Athletic Director of the Year, and
received several awards, including NMADA State Award of Merit and the New Mexico Activities
Association (NMAA) Director’s Cup.
She is a NIAAA Conference Advisory Committee member, State LTC/Certification Coordinator,
and NMAA Commission member, and a national LTI (Leadership Training Institute) instructor.

“Making connections with kids who still stay in touch decades later shows I did something right
and made some impact along the way.” she said. “I’ve had kids show up on my lawn to support
me when my father passed away. My own daughter has been invited to be a flower girl in a
former player’s wedding.”
“We will miss Ms. Stewart’s leadership in the district,” Supt. Jennifer Guy said. “She has made a great impact for many students over the years and for the athletic programs available at our schools. We wish her all the best.”
