LAPD Honored For Raising $8,000+ In 2023 For Special Olympics NM, Oliver Morris Receives Flame Of Hope Award

Los Alamos Police Department Deputy Chief Oliver Morris received the Special Olympics NM Law Enforcement Torch Run Flame of Hope Award last Friday during the LETR conference at Buffalo Thunder Resort. The award is presented to one LETR officer each year for efforts supporting Special Olympics. Morris also accepted a Flame of Hope award in August 2020 on behalf of LAPD’s Torch Run supporters, local Special Olympics athletes and their families. Photo by Kateri Morris

The LAPD Special Olympics NM team received the ‘Gold Award’ for raising more than $8,000 for Special Olympics NM in 2023. Close to $10,000 was raised during the LETR two-day conference at Buffalo Thunder Resort by LETR officers from throughout the state, including $890 from a 50/50 raffle, $3,190 from an auction, $500 donation from the Pueblo of Pojoaque, and $5.057 from the Polar Plunge.
