Los Alamos County Library Board Issues Update For January 2024

COUNTY NEWS RELEASE

Welcome to the first of a regular series of updates from the Los Alamos County Library Board.  The Library Board’s primary purpose is to receive input from the public and, based on that input, make recommendations to Los Alamos County Council that support the fulfillment of the library’s mission in the community. We know there are many enthusiastic library patrons in our county. We hope these updates will not only keep you informed on library news but also serve as a reminder that we welcome your feedback.

At the January 8 board meeting, Daniel Gaghan, Digital Service Senior Librarian, gave a presentation on the library’s digital services. His PowerPoint presentation is included in the January 8, 2024 Final Library Agenda Packet. You can expect to see a refresh of the library website in the near future, which will include a mobile-friendly version of the website. The library is evaluating several new services, such as Freegal, Kanopy, Wall Street Journal, and A to Z World Food

The library already offers a range of digital services, accessible with your library card and PIN. Are you looking for a new craft hobby? Amigurumi, sewing, painting, drawing? Check out Creativebug

Udemy offers online courses covering many topics, skill levels, and languages and is free to library users. Do you want to improve writing skills? Do you want to learn Python, Javascript, management, foreign languages, music, art? Explore what Udemy has to offer.

At February’s meeting, Library Manager Gwen Kalavaza will give an update on the Library’s Strategic Plan 2024-2027. There is no meeting in March. Norma Covington, Adult Services Librarian, will present an update on the accessibility efforts of the library in April.

Questions and comments about library issues can be emailed to lb@lacnm.us. This email will reach all board members: Frances Knudson, Beth Stelle, John Nash, Brian Reardon, and Sarah Work. Library Board meetings are usually held on the first Monday of the month and are open to the public.
