Obituary: Dan Rusthoi January 1942 – December 2023

Dan Rusthoi was born in 1942 and passed away in December 2023.

Dan was in the Peace Corps in Iran in the mid-1960s. He joined Los Alamos National Laboratory in 1978 as a technical staff member and worked on many projects including the Advanced Fuel Cycles Project and the Accelerator of Tritium/Low Energy Demonstration Accelerator Project at TA-53.

He was a contributor to Santa Fe Pro Musica, Santa Fe Desert Chorale, and the Sangre de Cristo Chorale. He was generous with his time and volunteered at the Pajarito Environmental Education Center.

After he retired from LANL in 2008, he worked with Santa Fe Habitat for Humanity’s staff, board and volunteers, and as a chef at St. Elizabeth Men’s Shelter in Santa Fe. He said all the experiences were rewarding.

“Make the world a better place wherever you are – your life will have purpose and good physical, psychological, and mental health besides,” Dan said.

He played piano at his church and for special events, and enjoyed all active outdoor activities.

A memorial service for Dan Rusthoi will be held at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 27 at the United Church of Los Alamos, 2525 Canyon Road, Los Alamos.
