LITTLE BIRD NEWS RELEASE

Little Bird Yoga Studio is set to host an Open House on Saturday, Jan. 6 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Nestled in the heart of Los Alamos, the studio invites the community to join in a day of wellness, joy, and connection.  Attendees will have the opportunity to explore the diverse offerings of Little Bird Yoga Studio featuring demonstrations of mini yoga and barre classes.  Attendees can participate in these demonstrations to get an idea of what these classes are like.

The celebration kicks off earlier in the day with a Student Party at 11:00 AM between the 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM yoga classes. This prelude to the Open House allows students to mingle, share experiences, and build bonds within the Little Bird Yoga community.  If you have been a student in 2023, feel free to stop by for the student party.

The celebration goes beyond the mat with a  short soundbath experience, featuring crystal singing bowls.  The soundbath allows participants to indulge in the therapeutic sounds that promote relaxation and mindfulness. Additionally, a Kirtan Kriya chantalong promises to uplift spirits and create a sense of community through shared positive vibrations.  The “sat ta nam ah” chant has been studied extensively in the prevention of Alzherimers and includes a full body experience of visualization, vocalization, meditation, and body movement.

As part of the festivities, guests will be treated to tea, snacks and cake.  It’s an opportunity for both seasoned practitioners and newcomers to connect with like-minded individuals and share in the joy of wellness and community.

Little Bird Yoga Studio has exciting plans for the upcoming year, introducing the theme of “Winter Renewal” for the winter months.  In January and February, the focus will be on the Chakras during the Chakra Monday classes. Participants can look forward to rebuilding strength, mobility, balance, and flexibility from the ground up, setting the tone for a rejuvenating 2024.

Regular classes are held Monday through Saturday.  There is a class each night at 5:15PM.  Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday have multiple daytime options for classes.  The studio supports all ranges of activity levels from more meditative classes to more vigorous classes.  The studio also embraces a range of mobility levels, including several seated classes that use chairs to aid both balance and support.  The studio provides different ways to participate (on-line, hybrid, and in-person), so that we’re able to meet students’ needs in their busy lifestyles.  The seated yogabarre class recently moved to the Betty Ehart Senior Center in hopes of expanding the number of students that are reached.  Between the variety of classes, the support for a variety of students, and the different participation models, the Little Bird Yoga Studio hopes to be a community resource, where people feel welcome.

Currently, the studio has two main instructors: Heather Quinn and Kathy Gursky.  Both instructors are long-time residents of Los Alamos, and both taught at Los Alamos Fitness Center for several years.  Both instructors are 500-hr yoga teachers with special certifications in trauma-informed teaching.  Kathy has additional training focusing on Active Seniors, Wellness, and Women.  Heather is currently enrolled in a certified Yoga Therapy program that focuses on physical and mental wellbeing and chronic illnesses and a personal focus on neurodivergence and trauma.  She will be starting both group and individual yoga therapy classes in the upcoming months as part of her training program.

The Little Bird Yoga Studio team extends a warm invitation to the entire community to join in this day of celebration, self-discovery, and wellness. Whether you’re a seasoned yogi or new to the practice, the Open House promises something for everyone.

Little Bird Yoga Studio is located at 1625 Central Ave., Room 206 in Los Alamos.
