FJDA NEWS RELEASE
Robert Bustos was convicted Friday in Rio Arriba County of criminal sexual penetration of a minor, two counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor, two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and enticement of a child. Bustos was immediately remanded into custody. The 44-year-old was accused of a 2021 incident where he drugged and sexually assaulted an underage family member. Bustos was also accused of filming the incident.
The FJDA is grateful to the victim in this case for her brave testimony, as well as all law enforcement personnel whose testimonies helped bring this case to a resolution. Our office is also incredibly proud of senior trial attorneys Arwen Gaddis and Elizabeth Counce for their efforts in litigating this harrowing case.
The FJDA would be remiss if we did not thank the jury who deliberated in this case. On top of deciding an incredibly difficult case, jurors were asked to travel to the Tierra Amarilla district courthouse in inclement weather. Thank you all for your service.
At sentencing, Bustos will face up to 22 years imprisonment.
