Mia Casados, a graduate of Los Alamos High School, was selected to receive a $2,500 STAR Scholarship from the P.E.O. Sisterhood. She was recommended by P.E.O. Chapter AK of Los Alamos, NM.
The P.E.O. STAR Scholarship was established in 2009 to provide scholarships for exceptional women in their final year of high school to attend an accredited postsecondary educational institution in the U.S. or Canada in the next academic year. The competitive STAR Scholarship is for women who exhibit excellence in leadership, academics, extracurricular activities, community service and potential for future success.
Mia positively impacts her community as a volunteer, at work and in school. In high school she maintained a 4.0 GPA and belonged to the National Honor Society, while volunteering at the San Martin de Porres soup kitchen and Moving Arts Moving Arts Española, and working at the local Starbucks. She placed in the national DECA competition interpreting accounting ledgers and financials. She is currently a freshman attending the University of New Mexico and pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree. Mia’s Junior year of High School she graduated with her certificate in Business Marketing from the University of New Mexico. She is currently attending the University of Arizona pursuing a Bachelors of Science in Management. Mia is studying Business Management at The W. P. Carey School of Business.
Chapter AK has been a part of the Los Alamos community since it was organized in 1959.
P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization) has been celebrating women helping women reach for the stars for more than 150 years. Sisterhood has brought together more than half a million women in the United States and Canada who are passionate about helping women advance through education while supporting and motivating them. What started with a bond of friendship among seven women in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, is now one of the oldest women’s organizations in North America with close to 5,600 chapters.
