First Born Program of Los Alamos wants to thank the community of Los Alamos County for their support during our fall fundraiser with Samizdat Bookstore and Teahouse. Jill Lang, owner of Samizdat Bookstore, hosted the second annual fundraiser last month for the program, and the community donated almost $400 and over 25 books to the First Born program.
As part of their early literacy efforts, First Born regularly shares age appropriate books well as a variety of parenting books with families. Since their opening, First Born has purchased most of these books from Samizdat Bookstore. Owner Jill Lang generously provides a substantial discount to First Born stating, “A top priority for Samizdat Bookstore is to support the local community.”
Please keep both of these organizations in mind these coming weeks – stop by Samizdat Bookstore and Teahouse for Small Business Saturday (and all the other fantastic local businesses!) and consider donating to the First Born Program of Los Alamos on Giving Tuesday. About the First Born Program
The First Born Program of Los Alamos is a free and voluntary home visiting program for all first time families in Los Alamos. The program is relationship‐centered and curriculum‐based. Families who participate receive support, information about pregnancy, early childhood development, health, nutrition and safety and learn fun activities to help build brain development and learning. Through weekly home visits, families identify personal goals, recognize challenges and opportunities for growth and build a healthy, loving, playful relationship with their child. Samizdat Bookstore and Teahouse was established in Los Alamos in 2021 as part of the Los Alamos Commerce and Development Corporation’s Retail Accelerator program.
