Maelo (Mae Louise) Crissman died recently after a long illness. She was born in Las Vegas, New Mexico on August 21, 1938. Her parents were Stanton Harold Wonn and Frances Mae (Barrett) Wonn. Maelo grew up with an older brother, Glenn, and a younger sister, Debbie. She spent much of her life in New Mexico and also lived in California, Florida, and Pennsylvania.
Maelo attended Highland High School and business school in Albuquerque. She studied ballet and tap dancing at Fishback Studios and continued dancing in California and in Santa Fe. She loved to watch football, especially Penn State, in person or on television, and often compared the strength and grace of the pass receivers to ballet dancers.
Each relative and friend has been touched by her generosity. She was always prepared with gifts and greeting cards, selected carefully for each recipient, sometimes years in advance.
Three sons, Jeff, Brian, and Darryl, were the greatest joys of her life. All of them shared her loves of music, dance, musical theater, and art. She was also blessed with two daughters-in-law, Danielle and Sharon, and two grandsons, Kevin and Kyle. Her husband of many years, Harry Crissman, survives her. Maelo is also remembered by Harry’s daughter Angela Matz and grandchildren Brennen, Ella, and Raena.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at 1:00 PM, at Sandia Memory Gardens, 9500 San Pedro Drive NE, Albuquerque.
