LA Cares
LA Cares would like to thank the community and the Los Alamos Church of Christ for a successful “yard” sale. The sale was held indoors on Saturday, Sept. 30 at the Church of Christ building at 2323 Diamond Dr. Many items were donated by church members and friends. Generous shoppers donated extra cash to support the mission of LA Cares—to provide food, and rent and utility assistance to residents of Los Alamos County. A special thanks to Barbara Evans, LA Cares board member and church member, and Kay Willerton, church member, for their dedication and hours of preparation to make the sale a success. They were also able to donate some items to ladies from a start-up church in Santa Fe.
The $875 in donations will be used to purchase fresh produce, eggs and meat for the nearly 100 families we serve each month.
LA Cares is an equal opportunity provider. We hold monthly food distributions and provide rent or utility assistance (once in a 12-month period) to residents of Los Alamos County. October’s food distribution will be Oct. 12 from 5:30-7 pm and Friday, Oct. 13 from 10:30- noon, at Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church on North Rd. Call 505-661-8015 to register for distribution or for more information.
Save the date: Saturday, Nov. 18 is the Postal Workers food drive to benefit LA Cares. That’s the day where you put a bag of non-perishable food by your mailbox. Mail carriers or Boy Scout volunteers will pick up your donations and bring them to a central location for sorting. This major food drive will fill our pantry for several months. Thank you in advance for participating. A list of desired items will be published closer to the date.
Thank you to all of Los Alamos folks who support LA Cares and make our efforts possible. Donations of food or cash are greatly appreciated. Monetary donations can be sent to PO Box 248, Los Alamos, NM 87544, or made online at our website: lacaresnm.org.
