Congratulations to the winners of the Los Alamos County Fair Blue Ribbon Homemade Pie Contest on Saturday. We had a wonderful set of judges who had a great time tasting the pie entries.

The winners of this year’s Blue Ribbon Homemade Pie contest are:

Grand champion overall pie – Lena Zielie, apple pie

Reserve grand champion overall pie – Joan Stockam, cherry pie

Third overall champion – Sheree Wedel , strawberry/raspberry pie

We appreciate all the contestants who entered their pies. The judges had quite a challenge in choosing the overall pie. They were all beautiful and delicious. This year’s judges included Theresa Cull, Los Alamos County Councilor; Capt. Ray Gandara, Los Alamos Fire Department; Chef Stephen Jakob, Betty Ehart Senior Center; and Eli Argo, Los Alamos Teen Center Director.

The judges did a fabulous job and we appreciate their time and commitment to the judging process to choose this year’s winners. We also want to recognize our co-superintendent Martyn Swinhoe, and assistants Kimberly Prada and Sam Prada. They did an excellent in assisting with and organizing the pie contest. And lastly, we thank Los Alamos County for providing the wonderful prizes for this year’s contest.
