Obituary: Mary McCalister Nov. 26, 1926 – July 10, 2023

Mary McCalister, a longtime resident of White Rock, New Mexico passed away in Denver, Colorado on July 10, 2023 after a brief illness.  Mary was born and raised in Denver, and it is now her final resting place along with her parents, per her longtime wishes.

Mary graduated from the University of Denver.  She accepted a position with the Los Alamos National Laboratory in 1955 where she was an accomplished programmer until her retirement.  Mary was a world traveler and enjoyed many trips with family and good friends.  Additionally, Mary was a devoted domino player.  She loved the weekly games at the senior center as well as those hosted by various friends.

One of Mary’s greatest joys was her dogs.  Mary contributed a great deal to the dog community in Los Alamos and New Mexico.  She taught courses at LADOC and was active in showing dogs in obedience, rally and agility.  She later explored herding and tracking with some of her dogs.

Mary was a fixture in the Los Alamos area for over 60 years and was an active member in the community, assisting with the Senior Center, and the Sombrillo residents.  She was always willing to help other community members get to doctor appointments from Los Alamos to Albuquerque.  She will truly be missed by all who knew her.

A Celebration of Life for Mary will be held Saturday, Aug. 26 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the White Rock Baptist Church on Hwy 4 . Bring a favorite memory of Mary to share.  Lite lunch and beverages will be provided.  RSVP by Aug. 21 to mickar_2@msn.com  or call/text 303-887-1052
