It was a long night Monday for the parents of a teen who fell off a cliff at Overlook Park earlier in the evening and was rescued by Los Alamos Fire Department and Los Alamos Police Department personnel and airlifted to Albuquerque by Classic Air Medical.

According to the teen’s mother, she is in surgery Tuesday for multiple broken bones. Her mother said although she had been on the particular section of an old trail many times, she slipped.

“She was awake and oriented and called me, so I could call 911. The outpouring of response went beyond the anticipated rescue by LAPD and LAFD and was nothing shy of phenomenal; we have never felt so loved,” her mother said.

Doctors hope to repair all the injuries but the teen will have a long recovery ahead, her mother said.

More information will be published as it becomes available. Please keep the family in your thoughts.
