Hear about Jewish life in Melbourne, Australia and Manchester, England. Pop-up event Monday, July 17, 7pm (6:30 refreshments) with roving rabbis-in-training from Chabad. Located at Los Alamos Jewish Center, 2400 Canyon Road the Jewish Center has plenty of things going on as the summer winds down. Services, classes, shabbat dinners and other events are open to guests and newcomers.

Here are a few upcoming activities:

Hebrew Through Song class: Every other Wednesday, 6:15-7:15pm. Improve your Hebrew vocabulary by listening to Israeli songs, or just come and enjoy the music and the translations. Next class: Wed, July 19th. Facilitated by native Hebrew speaker Geula Gross.

Tisha B’Av: the saddest day on the Jewish calendar, commemorating the period when the Temple in Jerusalem was destroyed. This year, the holiday begins on Wednesday, July 26 and goes through nightfall on Thursday, July 27. The Jewish Center will hold a brief service—including the reading of Lamentations—at 4 p.m. on Thursday, July 27.

Community Shabbat dinners: Monthly, generally the last Friday of the month.

Upcoming dates: Friday, July 28 and Friday, August 25. No charge, but must RSVP 5 days prior to lajcdinners@gmail.com

20s/30s Shabbat dinners: A chance for young adults to socialize at a shabbat dinner, hosted at a private home every month or two. Contact lajcdinners@gmail.com for upcoming date and address details.

Judaism Refresher/Intro to Adult Judaism class: Monday evenings, August 14, 21 28. Rabbi Jack Shlachter will facilitate this 3-part class. If your background in Judaism is rusty or non-existent, or if you grew up with a Jewish education that seemed childish and simplistic, this class may be for you. Get an overview of the beauty, complexities, and relevance of Jewish beliefs and practices for adults in a modern world. No charge.
