PEEC Offers Beginner Backpacking Trip To Puerto Nambe July 22-23

Join PEEC and the Los Alamos Mountaineers on a beginner’s backpacking trip in the Pecos Wilderness on Saturday and Sunday, July 22-23. Led by experienced backpacker, hiker, skier, and kayaker, Jean Dewart, this overnight trip is open to adults as well as children entering 7th grade or higher. The group will meet at Los Alamos Nature Center at 8 a.m. then carpool to the Santa Fe Ski Basin and hike the Windsor Trail about 4.5 miles to a campsite at Puerto Nambe. There will be time on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning for exploratory hiking. On Sunday, the group will hike back to the cars and return to Los Alamos mid-afternoon. The group will also gather at the nature center at 5:30 pm on Monday, July 17 to go over gear, discuss food and clothing, and answer any questions.
