Play Crawl: STEAM For Adults Event Set For Saturday Evening At Central Park Square

LOS ALAMOS MAINSTREET & CREATIVE DISTRICT NEWS RELEASE

The public is invited to participate in a new ScienceFest event on Saturday, July 15. From 6-8 pm Play Crawl: STEAM for Adults will be activating Central Park Square with math games, engineering and art activities, science experiments, root beer floats, beer, raffle prizes, and trivia for ages 18 and up.

“We felt it was important this year to offer activities targeting a variety of ages and interests. We think of this event as a counterpoint to our incredibly successful family-friendly & youth-focused, Discovery Day, which took place on July 8th,” said Jacquelyn Connolly, Los Alamos MainStreet and Creative District’s Executive Director. “In planning for this year’s ScienceFest, we noticed requests for play opportunities for an older demographic.”

Los Alamos STEAM Lab owner, Lisabeth Lueninghoener, said “I often see adults wanting an opportunity to play with many of the activities that STEAM Lab offers, especially with building materials and robots. Providing a space for them without the worry of stepping on or limiting the play of children or building ‘too dangerous’ towers, is important and we’re excited about the event.”

Beginning at any of the locations below, adult participants will receive a Play Crawl Bingo Card & Map. As they complete the various activities, the accumulating stamps will enter them into a raffle with a chance to win one of many prizes. Along the way, food and beverages will be available for purchase, including bubble teas and slushies at Samizdat, drinks and food at Boese, and $1 off beer and wine at Bathtub Brewery for play crawlers.

Participating spaces and organizations: Los Alamos STEAM Lab and Samizdat Bookstore and Teahouse, Bathtub Row Brewing and Co-op, projectY cowork, Boese Brothers Brewpub, Mathamuseum, and Los Alamos Arts Council.
Fun is the name of the game for this event and its goals are to engage adult brains with creativity and play, something research shows is pivotal in releasing endorphins, relieving stress, and thus improving brain functionality.  This setting has the added benefit of providing opportunities for human connection, which improves the overall state of physical and mental well-being.
