The winds have changed for Village Arts, and there’s some real weather brewing at 216 DP Road. It may be hot and sunny outside, but step inside the doors at Village Arts and the weather forecast is sunny, snowy, rainy, cool and crisp, well at least it is in the gallery space.

The “Weather Brewing” exhibit features more than 50 pieces of work by 26 artists, and will run
through the end of September. Artists were prompted to submit their takes on weather, and they certainly rose to the occasion.

Elizabeth Brosha and Lisa-Jo Dunham worked with more traditional scenes of quiet snowbound barns and churches  and calm sunny landscapes, while artists like E.E. Aicher and Theresa McPherson highlighted the majestic drama of a thunderstorm rolling in.  The invisible motion of wind is a theme in both Alison Aiken and Gloria Sharp’s pieces and water features in Judy Crocker’s “Seascape” needlepoint.

Weathered faces and the weathering of time are prominent in Melissa Montoya’s “Solo” homage to a lone tree, Sue Ellen Hain’s collages following the life of  Virginia Woolf, and John
Sarracino’s portrait and landscape photography.

Several artists found inspiration in the colors of the changing seasons, such as Melissa Alexander’s knitted works “Nip of Fall in the Air” and “April Showers Make Spring Flowers” and Thelma Hahn’s clay monoprint “Snowflake Dreams”.  Nancy Murphy Wallers abstracted fantastical gardens, Eileen Patterson’s collages play with color and form to pull in the moods of wind, rain, and warm sunlight, and Ticho Calderon’s sun smiles down from the wall.

From the small jewels of light painted by Anita Flores to the beaded weather patterns on the surface of Ann Greene’s “Jupiter”, weather is evident in the smallest to the broadest sense. Everyone knows how to talk about the weather, so stop by Village Arts and make your voice heard. With every show, Village Arts has a Viewer’s Choice Award, and the artist with the most votes receives a gift certificate to keep the inspiration flowing.

Village Arts is open from 9 AM-4 PM M-F, 10-4 Saturday, and by appointment.  For more information about everything Village Arts, find us on social media and at www.villageartsframing.com, and stay tuned for next year’s exhibit schedule!
