Shamarr Allen, The Kids, And All That Jazz…..

Renowned trumpeter Shamarr Allen chats with Los Alamos Middle School and High School jazz band students Friday afternoon at Ashley Pond Pavilion about making a future for themselves and where college fits into the picture. For the past decade, Allen has been teaching music to local children in his native New Orleans free of charge during weekly sessions at his mother‘s home. To his left is his son, who is also a musician and played with Shamarr and his group Friday evening. The LAPS musicians had the opportunity to take some instruction from Allen as well as play along with a world-renowned trumpeter. Photo by Maire O’Neill/losalamosreporter.com
