Wow, was I surprised when I opened the paper up… oh my. Maybe we all should take a moment… take a breath, count to ten and start again. Let’s review a little. Los Alamos is a different kind of town, it always has been. Since its inception people from many different backgrounds have come together in the name of science, to protect people from tyrannical domination. Science does not belong to a political party, science does not belong to any one particular race, science does not favor a particular sex, science does not belong to any one religion. Whatever possible category you could create to confine science is irrelevant. All these “special” categories we as humans have created to segregate ourselves into do not exist within the field of science. Science does not have a face to discriminate against, science does not have a body to despise, science does not have an ideology to abhor… science does not hate.
Humans can hate, and humans can be mislead into hating each other.
There are a few people, or it could be one person, who actually took the time and the energy to scrawl those hateful messages on the White Rock art rock. They did so with anonymity, so we don’t know who did it, and we don’t even know if they are from Los Alamos/White Rock. You don’t accidentally show up in Los Alamos/White Rock, you have to decide to go to the Secret City. So they could be from Los Alamos/White Rock, or they could be a agitator from out of town. Whoever did this meant to sow seeds of destruction in this particular community, which they fully intended on destabilizing. Let that marinate in your thoughts for a bit.
This is the wrong community to set neighbor against neighbor. That is a dangerous game to play, especially since destabilizing this particular community could pose an actual threat to national security. It would be wise to figure out who thought it was a good idea to do that, and then let those in charge of National Security take it from there. Now is an opportune time to introduce yourself to your neighbors. Don’t let whoever tried to sow those seeds of ruination win.
It doesn’t matter who started it, and quite frankly it’s irrelevant. What is relevant is that it needs to stop. It is okay to have different opinions, religions, thoughts, or whatever, as long as we do not harm to each other. “Let bygones be bygones”, it is not okay to keep attacking each other. You can’t have a conflict if everyone stops hurling accusations. Let the past stay in the past, and we journey together creating a better future. Why would you give whoever scrawled those hateful words the pleasure of watching neighbor attacking neighbor?
