LOS ALAMOS JJAB NEWS RELEASE
It is hard to believe that we are already into summer and thinking about a new school year. This time of year brings one of Los Alamos JJAB’s favorite programs: our annual school supply drive.
Starting in 2017, JJAB began raising funds to provide Los Alamos Public School (LAPS) students school supplies such as backpacks, notebooks, pencils, pens, crayons, graphing paper, folders, headphones, Clorox wipes, tissues, and other academic supplies. This year, we are once again asking the Los Alamos community to join us in ensuring that every youth is equipped with the tools they need to succeed in school and find joy in learning.
A large number of requests for supplies are anticipated this year. Rachel Mohr-Richards, JJAB Executive Director, emphasized, “Education is a major factor in achieving success in life. JJAB aims to provide the necessary supplies so every student can fully participate in school. Many in our area have been financially impacted by the COVID pandemic or by the current high rate of inflation, and purchasing school supplies may be more difficult for families this year. The community’s assistance is needed to help these youth and families.”
Financial donations will be used to purchase supplies for students in all LAPS schools, including our local elementary schools, Los Alamos Middle School, Los Alamos High School, Los Alamos Online Learning Academy, and Topper Virtual Academy. JJAB Resource Specialists will work with our client families, school counselors, and community organizations to gather student needs. JJAB will then purchase, as finances allow, the desired items and deliver them directly to the students and schools.
There are two ways community members can donate to support this project:
- Donate through the JJAB website www.losalamosjjab.com
- Mail a check to Los Alamos JJAB, PO Box 4716, Los Alamos, NM 87547 (Make checks payable to the Los Alamos JJAB and note on the check “school supplies”). We ask that checks be received by July 21.
