LAPS NEWS RELEASE

Los Alamos High School German teacher Elizabeth Bates has been named a 2023 U.S. Presidential Scholar’s most influential teacher by 2023 Presidential Scholar Brian Han. Scholars have been selecting an educator for this honor since 1983. She joins a group of almost 5,700 teachers who have earned this special distinction.

As noted in a letter sent to Ms. Bates by U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel A. Cardona, Presidential Scholar candidates “are asked to choose one teacher who has inspired them and contributed most to their success. This year, U.S. Presidential Scholar Brian Han chose you as that teacher.”

Ms. Bates has been teaching German at Los Alamos High School for the past six years. “I am truly honored to be recognized by Brian and the U.S. Presidential Scholars program,” she said.
