PAJARITO ASTRONOMERS NEWS RELEASE
Los Alamos County Parks, Recreation and Open Space Divisions have partnered up with the Pajarito Astronomers for the Dark Night program.
Anyone with an interest in star gazing and the chance to look through a telescope is invited to come out to Spirio Soccer Fields Saturday night, May 20, at Overlook Park in White Rock.
The forecast is calling for clear skies in White Rock around sunset. Because of the recent rain and the possibility for weather changes, volunteers will set up some or all telescopes in the parking lot. Please use caution and, if possible, use parking lights when approaching or leaving Spirio Fields when it is dark.
We will begin with viewing the crescent moon and Venus shortly after sunset. Volunteers from the Pajarito Astronomers Club will be present with telescopes starting about 8pm until at least 10:30pm, and longer if there is continued interest. LA County will have the lights out for the community and Spirio Fields will be available for astronomy use until midnight.
Red flashlights are recommended for safety. This event is free and open to the public and will be held weather permitting. Dress warmly and check the weather before heading over. Hope to see you there!
