Los Alamos High School Graduating Senior Josh Duran To Pursue Double Major In Music Performance, Education At UNM

Los Alamos High School graduating senior, Josh Duran will attend the University of New Mexico in the fall to pursue a double major in Music Performance and Music Education, with a concentration in Double Bass. Josh was awarded scholarships from UNM for Leadership as well as Music Education and Music Performance and has been accepted and will participate in the UNM Summer Music Institute/Bass Intensive Program in June.

Josh is the principle bassist in the Santa Fe Youth Symphony. This year he received 1st chair in the New Mexico Honors Orchestra and 2nd chair in the New Mexico Educators Association All-State Competiton Symphony Orchestra. He recently was selected to compete in the Santa Fe Symphony Concerto Competition and completed a Master Class with Professional Bassist Xavier Foley this Spring.

In addition to music, Josh has devoted his time and effort to the LAHS Athletics Program. He has played football since the 3rd grade and finished this year as Safety on the LAHS Varsity team. Josh also was apart of the Varsity Track & Field team, competing in both pole vault and sprinting events. He hopes to continue track & field at UNM.

Josh began teaching bass in 2019 and plans to continue after graduation.  His students have inspired him to become a Professor of Double Bass. 

Josh is the son of George and Zoe Duran and younger brother of Shiloh Duran.
