Santa Fe National Forest is reporting a fire start involving a lightning strike of a single dead and dying tree during storms Wednesday afternoon triggered a fire start north of Pajarito Mountain, east of the Nordice Ski Area and west of Quemazon Canyon. SFNF officials say they were notified of the fire start by Los Alamos Fire Department and the SFNF Interagency Helitack (Helicopter) crew responded immediately to assess the start. Currently there are no closures or threats to people or property, the SFNF alert stated. Due to the terrain and storms predicted in the next few days, the start will be monitored. The Los Alamos Reporter has reached out to LAFD Wildland Fire Chief Kelly Sterna. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
