Los Alamos Public Schools is happy to announce that Liz Janusz has been selected as the new principal of Aspen Elementary School. Mrs. Janusz is an outstanding leader who brings a passion for working with students and teachers to Aspen.
Mrs. Janusz has a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Eastern Illinois University. She earned a master’s degree in Reading from Roosevelt University. Most recently, she graduated with her second master’s degree in Educational Leadership from New Mexico Highlands University. She was born and raised in Chicago and moved to Los Alamos in 2021.
She brings an expansive set of skills, experience, and knowledge from serving many roles in education including as a classroom teacher, reading specialist, GATE teacher, and instructional coach. Most recently, she has been a 7th grade ELA teacher at Los Alamos Middle School. Prior to that, in Chicago, she worked at River Valley School as an instructional leader.
“I’ve really enjoyed the past two years at LAMS and being a classroom teacher,” Mrs. Janusz said. “The experiences I’ve gained have given me a strong understanding of what teachers, students, and family members have been facing in this post-COVID world. I’m looking forward to ensuring every Aspen student, staff member, and community member feels supported and valued.”
She has been married to Stefan Janusz for 10 years. They have two children, Mason and Zoey, a 2nd grader and a kindergartener.
“I am so excited to welcome Liz to the administrative team as the Aspen Principal,” said LAPS Superintendent Jennifer Guy. “She has critical skills and experiences that I believe will be a great asset to the Aspen school community. When I talked with her, I could easily see her high level of expertise and love for learning. I look forward to introducing her to all of the students, families, and staff.”
Mrs. Janusz will be available to start spending some time at Aspen Elementary over the next few weeks and will start full time at Aspen this summer.
