ECECD NEWS RELEASE
Early Childhood Education and Care Department’s (ECECD) announced Wednesday that its Home Visiting Bureau will host five community baby showers in cities across the state, where families will receive free diaper bags filled with baby essentials. Attendees who participate in the offered demonstrations and enroll in home visiting services will also take home a collapsible canopy wagon. ECECD’s Home Visiting Program, along with Region IX Education Cooperative, will hold events in Espanola, Albuquerque, Roswell, Farmington, and Las Cruces. The baby showers are open to expecting parents or families who have a young baby at home. Attendees must pre-register at nmececd.org/babyshowers.
“We want families to know that the Early Childhood Education and Care Department is here to help support them every step of the way from when they find out they’re welcoming a little one, up until age five,” said ECECD Cabinet Secretary Elizabeth Groginsky. “Our free Home Visiting program offers exceptional resources and support to new parents and wonderful incentives for participation in the program. If you are a new or expecting parent or caregiver, we can’t wait to meet you at one of our community baby showers so we can equip you with some baby essentials and introduce you to the many benefits of Home Visiting.”
ECECD’s Home Visiting Community Baby Shower events will feature live demonstrations on topics including safe sleep, car seat safety, and breast/chest feeding benefits. Home visiting is a relationship-based program for families who are expecting or have children up to the age of five and is 100% free to New Mexicans regardless of income. Home visitors come to you, in-person, in the convenience and comfort of your home or via telehealth online.
Community baby shower events will give guests more information about home visiting programs including tips for baby’s health and safety, nutritional support, parent self-care, finding childcare facilities, applying for resources, school preparedness for families, and much more. Sometimes raising children does take a village, and home visiting programs offer help and resources, so you don’t have to do it alone.
