UNM-Los Alamos is pleased to announce that it will be hosting its 42nd commencement ceremony on May 11, 2023, at Crossroads Bible Church in Los Alamos. The event will begin at 6 pm and will feature State Senator Leo Jaramillo as the keynote speaker.
Senator Jaramillo, who was elected in November 2020, represents New Mexico Senate District 5, which includes Los Alamos, Rio Arriba, Sandoval, and Santa Fe Counties. A native of the Española Valley and a proud alumnus of Española Valley High School, Senator Jaramillo has dedicated his career to public service and advocacy for his community. He currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Rules Committee and as a member of the Corporations and Transportation Committee in the New Mexico Senate.
In addition to Senator Jaramillo’s keynote address, the ceremony will feature Frances Chadwick, Staff Director at Los Alamos National Laboratory, as a special guest. Frances Chadwick supports the Lab’s director and deputy directors and manages the Director’s Office and the six divisions that report into it. She is also the executive champion for the Lab’s relationship with the communities of Northern New Mexico.
“We are honored to have Senator Jaramillo and Frances Chadwick join us for our 42nd commencement ceremony,” said UNM-Los Alamos Chancellor Dr. Mike Holtzclaw. “Their commitment to public service and their leadership in our community serve as inspiration for our graduates as they embark on their own paths.”
The ceremony will celebrate the achievements of UNM-Los Alamos’s graduating class of 2023, which includes students from a wide range of academic programs. UNM-Los Alamos is a branch campus of the University of New Mexico, offering a variety of associate degrees, certificates, and transfer programs.
“We are incredibly proud of our graduates and the hard work and dedication they have demonstrated throughout their academic journeys,” said Dr. Holtzclaw. “As they move on to the next chapter of their lives, we wish them all the best and look forward to seeing the impact they will make in our community and beyond.”
