Los Alamos Middle School Symphonic Band Wins State Competition

The Los Alamos Middle School Symphonic Band, under the direction of Deanna Teague, took first place in the New Mexico Middle School State Concert Band Contest held at Cleveland HS on Thursday. This is their first state title since 2005.

“I am so proud of the Symphonic band students,” said Band Director Deanna Teague. “We made straight ones at our local MPA.  The students listened to judges’ critiques and comments and worked hard to make improvements to go the extra mile.”

She added, “Thank you to Ryan Finn and Zane Meek for doing sectionals when needed and bouncing off ideas. We have a great team of directors and it’s a pleasure to work with them.” 

Members of the LAMS Symphonic Band include 7th graders Tyven Beaux, Carmen Cawkwell, Samantha Clayton, Jana Gauss, Leah Herrera, Patrick Ito, Madison King, Rebecca Lanier, Rafaela Rocha, Lucia Rudin, Harvey Sheppard, Vivian Sintay, Samantha Stone, Grace Virgilio and Campbell Washnok. Eighth graders in the Symphonic Band are Zulfiya Abdurahmon, Abraham Adams, Noah Bane, Hudson Bathrick-Price, Alexander Byerly, Isabella Cocina, Chase Connor, John Counce, Hunter Dare, Maira Finn, Elliot Gaunt, Adison Gurley, Oliver Henzl, Amelia Hill, Ralston Hoffer, Antonio Jaurigue, Eleanor Joggerst, Jaden Kim, Jinwoo Kim, Ian Kirkes, Aislinn Marshall, Alayna Martinez, Griffin McCabe, Sasho McDowell, Liv Niklasson, Diego Pacheco, Angel Perez, Kevin Petersen, Carson Stauffer, Saul Talamantes, Christopher Teague and Sumner Tholen.

They will next perform during the Los Alamos Public Schools District Music Festival on Thursday, May 11 at Los Alamos High School.
