YMCA NEWS RELEASE

Volunteers for late shifts are still needed to chaperone for the community-sponsored, all-night high school graduation celebration known as Senior Appreciation Night (SAN) on Saturday, May 27. Donor-sponsors are also still needed.

Late shift volunteers are asked to email volunteer coordinator Diana Martinez at dmartinez@laymca.org and indicate which shift desired (number of volunteers needed in parenthesis):

(2) 8:45-11 pm, Limbo Game at Ruby K’s;

(9) 9:45 pm-12 am, Carnival Games at the YMCA;

(6) 11:45 pm-2:20 am, at SALA Movie Theater to monitor movies;

(1) 2:30-3:30 am on May 28, at Fuller Lodge, lottery ticket helper.

SAN costs about $12,000 each year to produce and is mainly funded by parents, community businesses and organizations. As the Y is the fiscal sponsor, checks can be made out to The Family YMCA, notation on memo line for SAN, and mailed c/o The Family YMCA, 1450 Iris St., Los Alamos, NM 87544. People may donate online here or at https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=J2A4XDMTR4864.

SAN was created in 1984 by community volunteers and business as a fun, safe alternative to dangerous celebrations for graduates. The event typically serves 350+students.

SAN is sponsored by Los Alamos County Recreation Department, The Family YMCA, the DWI Planning Council, Kiwanis Club of Los Alamos, Los Alamos Public Schools, Atomic City Transit, First United Methodist Church, and some 40 other organizations and local businesses.
