Los Alamos And Rio Arriba County 4-H Members Compete In Northern Counties Qualifier For Archery And Shotgun

Los Alamos and Rio Arriba County 4-H members competed Sunday in the Northern Counties Shooting Sports Qualifier for Archery and Shotgun at the Los Alamos Sportsman’s Club. There are 3 age groups within 4-H Novice (3rd – 5th Grade), Junior (6th & 7th Grade) and Senior (8th – 12th Grade).

For Archery the Novice and Junior members shoot 6 rounds of 5 arrows at paper targets within a given time limit. The Senior members shoot a total of 36 arrows at paper targets at various distances within a given time limit, and a 3-D target course.

For Archery we had 3 Novices, Archer Stanek and Maliyah Vigil of Los Alamos and one member from Rio Arriba County, and for the Juniors Nicholas Booton of Los Alamos and 1 member from Rio Arriba County qualified for the Northeastern District Contest later this June in Raton. There were 2 Seniors, Alexandra Booton of Los Alamos and 1 member from Rio Arriba County qualified for the New Mexico State 4-H Shooting Championship this May held in Raton.

For Shotgun the Novice and Junior members shoot Trap, 1 round of 25 targets, 5 from each of the 5 shooting stations at 16yards,. The Seniors shoot Skeet, singles and doubles from stations 1, 2, 6, and 7 and singles from station 3, 4, ,5 and 8, for a total of 50 targets and Trap, 2 rounds of 25 targets from each of the 5 shooting stations at 16 yards. 1 Novice member from Rio Arriba County qualified for the Northeastern District Contest later this June in Raton, and 4 Senior members, Donovan Allen, Kadin Hansel, and Colton Hollander of Los Alamos and 1 member form Rio Arriba County qualified for the New Mexico State 4-H Shooting Championship this May held in Raton.
