The University of New Mexico-Los Alamos is delighted to announce the return of Dr. Cynthia (Cindy) Rooney to the classroom. Dr. Rooney, a Business professor at UNM-Albuquerque and UNM-Los Alamos, and former Chancellor of UNM-Los Alamos, is known for her enthusiasm and her unwavering commitment to education.
Those who have interacted with Dr. Rooney in her capacity as an instructor or as Chancellor know that she is an energetic and dynamic personality, with many real-world, relevant business and management examples. She is a tremendous resource to both the college and the community, and her return to the classroom is eagerly anticipated.
This fall, to provide students with options that best suit their learning styles and busy schedules, Rooney will offer Introduction to Business in both online and face-to-face formats.
Dr. Rooney’s academic credentials include a BS in Accounting, an MBA, and a Ph.D. in Accounting with a minor in Organizational Psychology, from the University of Tennessee. She has been involved in higher education for over 30 years, previously teaching at the College of William and Mary and Xavier University before joining UNM-Albuquerque and later UNM-Los Alamos.
This past year, Rooney served as a Special Advisor on Branch Affairs to Dr. James Holoway, UNM Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs. In this administrative role, she worked closely with leadership at all four of the UNM branch campuses as well as with the central UNM campus in Albuquerque.
Aside from her teaching, Dr. Rooney continues to serve the local community with membership on the board of the Los Alamos Commerce and Development Corporation, the Los Alamos Community Foundation, and the Los Alamos Economic Vitality Action Team.
UNM-Los Alamos is thrilled to welcome Dr. Rooney back to the classroom, and we look forward to the many benefits her experience and expertise will bring to our Accounting, Management, and Business programs.
