STEP UP GALLERY NEWS RELEASE

Wednesday’s opening reception was a grand success! The All Schools Student Art Show’s opening reception, rescheduled due to last week’s inclement weather, drew more than 500 students, parents and additional community members. Music from The Bridge String Quintet, more than 150 pieces of art from ages 5-18-years old, happy children and teens, proud parents and teachers, all together made this year’s event was a triumph.

Library manager, Gwen Kalavaza, was on hand to congratulate the LAPS art instructors and the students displaying artwork in the show.

Step Up Gallery manager, Diane Stoffel noted “This student art show was cut short in 2020 and cancelled in 2021 and 2022 due to effects of the Covid pandemic. Even now, some folks are hesitant to go to public events. Then a snow storm hit last week and caused the reception to be postponed to March 8th.  I was honestly surprised by the crowds the opening drew. It was a marvelous comeback! Many attendees came masked, but they came. I’m so glad the LAPS art instructors had the chance to celebrate their students hard work and success!”

The All Schools Student Art Show is open to public viewing in the gallery during regular Mesa Public Library hours and will be on display through March 27, 2023.
