PEEC Announces Planetarium Programs For March

PEEC has a full month of programs planned for the nature center planetarium. If you haven’t visited the planetarium before, March is a great time to check it out!

On March 10, learn about telescopes and how to set them up in Telescopes for Beginners. PEEC educators will lead a hands-on introduction to telescopes, using ones that have been donated to PEEC. Weather permitting, this class will be held outside. In case of bad weather, the class will be held inside. This is a family-friendly event; however, all children must be accompanied by a supervising adult.  Admission: $10/family, $6/adult, $4/student.

On March 17, the Los Alamos High School Astronomy Club will present The Great Big Sky and Where to Find It. LAHS club members  will discuss the effects of light pollution, and where people can avoid it to truly see the beautiful night sky.  Then they will take the audience on a journey to beyond the outskirts of infinity, highlighting the sheer and unimaginable scale of the universe. The Los Alamos High School Astronomy Club is a group of students who devote every other Friday’s lunch to astronomy. They hold monthly talks covering various topics involving astronomy and bring their personal telescopes to dark nights, where they observe the stars. Admission: $6/adult, FREE for all students

On March 24, experience the full-dome movie Two Small Pieces of Glass. Aiming to engage and appeal to audiences of all ages, this movie  explores the wonder and discovery made by astronomers throughout the last 400 years. Admission: $6/adult, $4/student.

Finally on March 31, Dr. Galen Gisler will present The James Webb Space Telescope: Discoveries about the Early Universe. This program will summarize what has been learned, and what is yet to be learned about the early Universe from the data obtained by the James Webb Space Telescope. Admission: $6/adult, $4/student.

Because seating is limited in the planetarium, advance registration is encouraged! Sign up now to reserve your seats. If space is still available, we will admit walk-up attendees at the nature center at the time of the presentation.

Planetarium events are not recommended for kids under age 4.
