STEP UP GALLERY NEWS RELEASE
Los Alamos Public Schools student art work will be on display March 2 – 27 in Step Up Gallery at Mesa Public Library. The opening reception with refreshments and live music by The Bridge Quartet takes place Thursday, March 2nd from 5:00 – 6:30pm. The show highlights artwork created by local student artists at the elementary, middle school and high school levels.
Since 1961, Youth Art Month has been celebrated in March at schools all around the country. In honor of youth art education, the Los Alamos Public Schools “2023 All Schools Student Art Show,” hosted by Step Up Gallery at the Mesa Public Library, is back! The show has been an exciting event for over 15 years and has long been an important show for LAPS students, art teachers and the community. LAPS student artists will be highlighted from elementary, middle school and high school with both 2D and 3D works on display. In the past, the show has attracted hundreds of visitors on opening night and the ten district art teachers hope Thursday’s opening will be just as successful!
The All Schools Student Art Show is an excellent opportunity to see what the LAPS art program is working on with students at each level and how the art program builds on itself throughout a child’s school experience. Unlike any other subject, visual arts within the schools develop skills in creativity, observation, problem solving, critical thinking and communication. The LAPS art program has been generously supported by the District, the Fine Arts Education Act and local communities. This would not be possible without its stellar group of art teachers, each bringing their own love, enthusiasm and talent to the program.
Los Alamos and its surrounding communities are rich in talented artists and many of those artists are our very own LAPS students. We hope the community will come out and support the public schools art program and see the show. We guarantee that no one will be disappointed as there will be art for all ages to enjoy.
Step Up Gallery is on the upper level of Mesa Public Library, 2400 Central Avenue. The gallery’s hours are the same as the library hours: Monday – Thursday, 10am – 8pm; Friday, 10am – 6pm; Saturday, 10am – 5pm; closed Sundays. Admission is free and open to the public.
