LAPD NEWS RELEASE.

Los Alamos Police Department will conduct sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols as well as registration, insurance, and driver’s license checkpoints in Los Alamos County during the upcoming Spring months.

“Our Department’s Drug Recognition Expert’s (DRE’s) Det. Jemuel Montoya and Cpl. Jaime Gonzales are tasked with leading our Department in DWI enforcement by not only organizing checkpoints but also by bringing awareness through publication and community outreach to reduce alcohol related fatalities, crashes, and offenses,” said Deputy Chief Oliver Morris.

These checkpoints are helping to change society’s attitude about drinking and driving.  Last year LAPD was happy to report that no persons were arrested during a DWI checkpoint conducted on St. Patrick’s Day in Los Alamos County.

Hundreds of lives could be saved each year if every driver had the courage to make the right decision to not drink and drive.
