As this week celebrates love of many kinds,  Champions of Youth Ambitions (C’YA) is hoping that community adults will share their love for high school seniors with them.

The first ever Mikey Aslam Scholarship will be presented this May to a local high school student. The student has minimal requirements that include a one-page letter, a recommendation from an adult and some type of community volunteer work such as engagement in church activities or a connection to Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts, and Los Alamos High School for any part of their high school education.

Aslam lost his life tragically last October while attending college. Mikey was a great son and student. He had a love of God, a love of Scouting and could always be found doing great things. While the loss is deep, the idea of a memorial scholarship allows Mikey’s life to live on while helping a fellow student.

“The donations from the community mean so much to our family at this time,” said the Aslam family. “It affirms the impact Mikey had on so many others while the scholarship will help several others reach their dreams.”

Additional information can be obtained from C’YA or by checking the LAHS scholarship packet. The deadline is later this month, but with simple qualifications, the goal is to have an easy path for seniors already working toward graduation. CY’A can be reached by calling or texting (505) 695-9139 or emailing cya.org@att.net. Applications and donations can be sent to P.O. Box 4741, White Rock, NM 87547.
