LAPS Los Alamos Middle School Asst. Principal Andy Ainsworth has announced that he is leaving his position at LAMS to pursue a new career opportunity. His last day is Feb. 10.
LAMS Dean of Students Alicia Edgin will move into the role of Assistant Principal.
“Ms. Edgin will be working closely with myself and Mr. Ainsworth to ensure a smooth transition of services and supports,” said LAMS Principal Jill Gonzales.
Mr. Ainsworth has worked in the district for over ten years as a teacher, coach and most recently as assistant principal. “It has been a joy being part of the LAMS family over the past decade plus,” he said in a letter to LAMS staff. “We’ve faced many obstacles together, and I couldn’t have asked for a more outstanding and capable team to work with through the difficult times. On the other hand, we’ve experienced many incredible moments and I leave LAMS cherishing many, many fond memories. One thing’s for sure, I have always loved being a Hawk!”
“I have worked with Mr. Ainsworth in a variety of capacities over the last several years and am incredibly grateful for the many positive contributions he has made to the students, staff, athletes and families in our community,” noted Principal Gonzales. “He has always made teaching and learning a priority and puts the needs of students first.”
Acting Supt. Jennifer Guy thanked Andy Ainsworth for his service. “Andy Ainsworth will be greatly missed,” she said. “He is an incredible educator that genuinely loves kids. I wish him the best and look forward to continuing to see him around the district as a parent, coach, and friend.”
Ms. Edgin joined the LAMS staff at the beginning of the school year. Prior to joining LAMS, she was an Assistant Principal in the Espanola school district, working at both the high school and middle school. Before that, she was the Assistant Principal at MVMS in Alamogordo for 3 years. Ms. Edgin’s middle school experience also includes teaching 6th and 8th grade Science, 6th grade ELA, and being an attendance secretary. “I am excited and blessed to continue to be a part of the LAMS family. Go Hawks!”
