The Los Alamos High School (LAHS) Cheer Team garnered first place last weekend at the New Mexico State University Spirit Championship competition.
The team competed in the All Girls Game Day division in which they performed a band chant dance, situational sideline, cheer and the school fight song.
“I am extremely proud of this team,” Coach Lauren Sandoval said. “They’ve worked hard this year on their routines and skills.”
Cheer team members who participated in the competition were Angelee Abeyta, Ashley Casados, Lucia Chacon, Isabella Estrada, Gabriella Gonzales, Jazmyne Gray, Harmony Gutierrez, Allyson Harbert, Betty Kang, Trinity Lucero, Megan Martinez, Rebecca Massa, Sophia Rodriguez, Sophia Sisneros, Elizabeth Tafoya and Alessandra Valencia.
More than 20 schools participated in different categories in both cheer and dance. Raton High School placed second in the All Girls Game Day division, followed by Alamogordo High School in third, Cobre High School in fourth and Capitan High School in fifth place.
