Epic games of phone tag, conflicting schedules, international relocations and a global pandemic all conspired, at one time or another, to keep David Berkeley from performing for the Live in Los Alamos concert series. The singer-songwriter, who the San Francisco Chronicle calls “a musical poet,” will finally climb the hill from his home in Santa Fe and will be joined by fellow New Mexicans Susan Holmes and Ben Wright for a show at the historic Fuller Lodge. The February 24 concert will showcase Berkeley’s “lustrous, melancholy voice, with shades of Tim Buckley and Nick Drake,” (New York Times), and will feature many of the songs from his eighth, and most recent album, Oh Quiet World. That album, written when Berkeley and family managed to escape the COVID lockdown in Spain, where they had been living, is surprisingly optimistic for a pandemic inspired work.
Berkeley has opened for Dido, Don McClean, Ben Folds, Billy Bragg, Ray Lamontagne, Nickel Creek, to name just a few, and has extensively toured as a solo act across this country and others. He will add his invite to Fuller Lodge to a list of other noteworthy appearances that include The World Cafe, The Sundance Film Festival, and South by Southwest.
A handful of Live in Los Alamos’ most loyal fans have requested Berkeley’s appearance after catching his live show elsewhere and their assessment of his talent is shared by legendary New Mexico bassist Susan Holmes, who will be joining David as part of the trio.
Live in Los Alamos shows are made possible with the continued sponsorship of Pueblo Canyon Inn and Anthony Belletete, CPA, LLC, as well as annual sponsorships from numerous local families.
