
Ron Hyer, 86, longtime time resident of Los Alamos, NM, passed away at his home in Pajarito Acres on Jan. 13, 2023
Ron was born in Los Angeles, CA, and lived in many US states throughout his childhood. He went to Marquette University and received his graduate degree in physics from Louisiana State University. Ron married Dianne Kendall LaCour and they moved to Livermore, CA, where he worked for Lawrence Livermore Laboratory. The family of five then moved to Los Alamos in 1970 where Ron was a laser physicist at Los Alamos National Laboratory until his retirement. An avid private airplane pilot, Ron was in his element soaring above the Jemez and everywhere his planes took him. Ron served in the Civil Air Patrol as a Mission Pilot searching for downed aircraft and is credited for saving the life of one very grateful aviator.
Ron enjoyed raising his children, rebuilding and maintaining classic cars and airplanes, skiing, fishing and his beloved animal friends. He made time for those he touched.
He is proceeded in death by his father Walter Hyer, his mother Evelyn Hood Hyer, and his sister Nancy Alsbrooks. He is survived by his brother Ralph Hyer, his daughter Erin Krohl (Mitchell), sons Randall Hyer (Kari), and Christopher Hyer (LeAnna), grandson Holden Hyer, his nephew and nieces, long-time companion Marilyn Thomas and her children James, Kathy, Teri and Jeff.
Ron is loved by those he touched. He is resting in peace now.
A celebration of life will be held from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 21 at Fuller Lodge, Los Alamos, NM. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Espanola Animal Shelter.
