The Los Alamos Reporter has obtained new details about the resignation of Dr. Jose Delfin as superintendent of Los Alamos School District. Delfin’s resignation is effective June 30, a year prior to his contract, which would otherwise have ended June 20, 2024.
If Delfin begins new employment prior to June 30, he has to notify the school board president and submit a modified letter of resignation reflecting an earlier resignation date.
The resignation agreement states that the District and Delfin agreed that is not possible for Delfin to complete his term as superintendent given irreconcilable differences of opinion between them. According to the agreement Delfin will remain on administrative leave with his current pay, benefits and deductions until the effective date of his resignation without performing any further duties for the district. The agreement contains a short letter of reference agreed upon by the parties that reads as follows:
Dr. Jose Delfin was employed by Los Alamos Public Schools as a Superintendent from April 2022 to June 30, 2023. Superintendent Delfin has expressed his passion for kids and his intention to pursue advancement of the District. When he resigned his position with the district, Dr. Delfin’s annual salary when he resigned was $175,000.
