Local 4-H program participants were recognized for their accomplishments during 2022 at a December 17 banquet at Fuller Lodge. Special guests honored for their contributions to 4-H were: Del Jimenez, Agriculture Specialist for NMSU, Los Alamos County Council Chair Randall Ryti, Los Alamos Reporter Editor Maire O’Neill and 4-H Coach Mike O’Neill
Each 4-H member was recognized for their years of participation and received a pin.

State Contests in the Senior Division:
In Favorite Foods: Alex Booton placed 4th, Sam Prada placed 3rd, and Kim Prada placed 1st and she also received the buckle award at State Conference. Carley and Colton Hollander also participated in Consumer Decision Making and Horticulture contests at State Conference this year as well.

Beef show: Colton Hollander was awarded the Grand Champion Heifer and Grand Showman buckles.
Lamb Show: Claire Robinson, Preslee Robinson, and Adalene Zielie exhibited in the Booster class.
Goat Show:
There were several 1st and 2nd place class winners including Nicholas Booton, Kadin Hansel, Carley Hollander, Colton Hollander, and Kohynn Young. These individuals earned a spot in the auction and sold their animal, with the exception of Kohynn’s dairy goat and Gwen Booton participated in the Booster class goat show this year too.
Carley Hollander earned the top buckle awards with her Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion goats, as well as the Grand Showmanship award.
Nicholas Booton won the Reserve Grand Novice showman award.
Poultry Show:
Emilia Blackburn, Gwen Booton, Zaiden McClellan, Claire Robinson, Preslee Robinson, Julia Rodriguez, Archer Stanek, Nico Ulrich, and Adalene Zielie. There were several first place class winners in the poultry show including Chloe Blackburn, Dylan Rodriguez, Lillian Schmidt, and Sylvia Stanek.
Chloe Blackburn was the Grand Champion poultry buckle winner this year.
Showmanship Division – Sylvia Stanek was the 1st place Novice Showman
Rabbit show:
The following members exhibited in the Booster show: Zaiden McClellan and Nico Ulrich
Ryder McClellan and Derek Rodriguez collectively earned six 1st and 2nd place ribbons in the rabbit show. Ryder earned the Grand Champion buckle award and Derek earned the Grand Champion Showmanship buckle award.
Barbara Faulkner Buckle
Kimberly Prada received the Barbara Faulkner buckle award in recognition for the best tasting Homemade Delight out of 42 entries with her Cherry Macaroon Pie. This buckle deems her as the best 4-H baker in two counties.

42 of these indoor projects were also selected to advance to the state fair with 25 of those projects placing in the top 3 in their class. Those 16 members who advanced to state fair are:

We would also like to recognize that we had great representation from (2) Los Alamos county exhibitors, Carley and Colton Hollander, in the highly competitive livestock shows at the New Mexico State Fair this year.
Colton Hollander placed 6th in the market heifer class and Carley Hollander placed 6th and 8th with her wether does.

Carley Hollander and Colton Hollander represented our county at Senior Leadership Retreat in January.
At Home Ec School in March we had Ryder McClellan, Derek Rodriguez, and Dylan Rodriguez, along with Kim Prada and Sam Prada who served as Junior Instructors.
Chloe Blackburn, Ryder McClellan, and Sylvia Stanek attended Youth Getaway in April.
