LOS ALAMOS FLUTE CHOIR NEWS RELEASE

The Los Alamos Flute Choir and SaxAtomix present their second joint Christmas concert, 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Dec.17 at the United Church of Los Alamos.

This free concert highlights the assortment of instruments played by members of both groups. Flutes to be played are the piccolo, C flute, alto flute, bass flute, and contrabass flute.  The  saxophones players will be sharing the soprano sax, alto sax, tenor sax, and baritone sax.

These groups will perform a variety of Christmas favorites as well as some beautiful pieces that could be new to the audience.

TheSaxAtomix began in 2017 as a quartet consisting of players drawn from the Los Alamos Community Winds. They initially jammed on jazz charts together.  Over time, this group’s composition shifted and became much more serious — moving from a quartet to a quintet.  We began playing much more challenging and difficult music across a breadth of forms (classical, jazz, rock, Latin, swing, etc.), all directed towards multiple external performances.

The Los Alamos Flute Choir gathered together in the Spring 2016. Since then, they have played for craft fairs, Valentine Serenades, Halloween parties, Christmas programs, and given formal concerts. The group is open to anyone, age 16 and older, who plays or has played the flute. If you, or someone you know is interested in joining, send an email to Tracey Speyrer at chefandbaker@hotmail.com.
