The NJROTC competition teams headed to Del Norte and West Mesa High Schools for the Duke City Invitational Drill Meet and Bill Barker Marksmanship Competition Saturday, November 5. They competed in color guard, unarmed regulation drill, and physical fitness, along with sporter and precision marksmanship. Female PT team captain Rebecca Moss stated, “Being committed and giving 120% each and every day pays off. Some would say “it pays to be a winner”. I’m so proud of this unit and how much we have improved over the years. I’m especially proud of my PT team. We started off by just pulling people from other teams and asking them to compete to winning six first places in a row. We have come so far and I can’t wait to see how far we can go.”
Commanding Officer Emma Drake said “I am incredibly proud of each and every one of the cadets that competed this past weekend at the Duke City Invitational and Major Bill Barker Air Rifle Match. This meet demonstrated that the hours of work put into winning by the cadets of Topper Company paid off. Bravo Zulu, Topper Company!”
The unit has many more competitions coming up and hopes to continue on this path, as it takes dedication and commitment to create these fantastic teams. Individual awards included Rebecca Moss, 3rd place female 400 meter run; Ian Swift, 3rd place male 400 meter run; Megan Crawford, 3rd place female sprint drag carry; Marissa Meierdierks, 2nd place female sprint drag carry; Rebecca Moss, 1st place female sprint drag carry; Arthur Yarotski, 3rd place male sprint drag carry; Ian Swift, 1st place sprint drag carry; and Megan Crawford, 1st place female standing power throw.
